Benátky n. Jizerou – Lázně Toušeň – Prague

Lázně Toušeň, author: Jiří Morávek

Along the lower Jizera river flow to Labe (cycle path on the former railway)

From Benátky nad Jizerou the Jizera river flows in a gentle curve, a short distance behind the village Kochánky it flows under the D10 motorway. Beyond the village Tuřice the Jizera valley opens more and flows freely into the Elbe plain. At the confluence of the Jizera river and the Elbe river, where our route crosses with the Elbe cycle path, lies Káraný with a drinking water treatment station for Prague. However the GW Jizera trail does not end in Lázně Toušeň where the Jizera river flows into the Elbe. From Lázně Toušeň which is on the other bank of the Elbe you can cross the footbridge and continue to Prague on the new cycle path No. 17. This route goes to Zeleneč where it connects to the routes to Horní Počernice, Vinoř or Letňany.

Or you can head towards to Prague and continue on the other, longer and sights rich path along the Elbe through the ancient double town of Brandýs nad Labem - Stará Boleslav. This most famous Czech double city which is divided by the river Elbe and is listed in the Czech geographical records as the city with the longest name. Brandýs with its renaissance chateau lies on the left bank of the river, Stará Boleslav with the oldest Czech pilgrimage site on the right. Brandýs n. L. is connected with the imperial and royal traditions of the Czech countries and the castle of the same name in its center, one of the most important Renaissance monuments in the Central Bohemia, is tightly connected with the mainstream of the Czech history. Stará Boleslav is the place of the beginnings of the Czech statehood and the Old Boleslav churches, dedicated to the Christian tradition of St. Wenceslas and the Marian tradition, have the statute of national cultural monuments.

From here you can continue through Podolanka, Přezletice to the northeastern outskirts of Prague.
